In this issue, I will take you deeper into how the body and mind work together in shaping the subconscious, how certain brainwave states make you more receptive to change, and how to tap into a state of openness and possibility, what Rumi called “The Field,” which makes sense because he was referring to the quantum field of all potential and possibilities in all of existence. The metaphysical concept of quantum entanglement refers to the interconnectedness of all that exists. You are connected to all that is. When you are able to open your heart to this connection, your internal state becomes more coherent and your bioenergetic field becomes more harmonious. This informs your experiences of reality — in other words, the state of your internal coherence and bioenergetic harmony directly affects how you perceive and experience reality.

The crazy amazing thing that I have found is that we innately know how to get in touch with this and human beings have been figuring this out for thousands of years. Shamans and Buddhist monks know how to do this. Even Charles Darwin was figuring out what blocks us from doing it and getting on a higher evolutionary path — what he called “The Struggle for Existence” in On Natural Selection, a.k.a. survival mode. If anyone can learn how to read the Tao Te Ching without taking it literally and instead read it symbolically, they will find that it is a master manuscript on manifestation:
The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao (your judgmental reasoning mind cannot grasp the Unseen Reality — your beta analytical brainwaves and limbic system activity are the incorrect functions of the brain to access this level of reality with)
The name that can be named is not the eternal name (when you try to use conditioned logic and reasoning to figure it out, you lose it)
The nameless is the origin of Heaven and Earth (the Unseen Reality is beyond all that we have ever known or could ever know)
The named is the mother of myriad things (anyone can observe and experience the manifestations that come from the Unseen Reality without really understanding it)
Thus, constantly free of desire (past the analytical mind that is always looking for more to acquire and do)
One observes its wonders (through a receptive, open field of awareness)
Constantly filled with desire (hooked on the survival paradox)
One observes its manifestations (first level of reality as the shamans call it, ike papakahi in Hawaiian, the objective observable reality — I will believe it when I see it)
These two emerge together but differ in name (only from the correct state of consciousness can you truly grasp the phenomenon that is being witnessed)
The unity is said to be the mystery (when you can access the state of consciousness that knows no separation, called ike papaha in terms of Hawaiian Kahili shamanism)
Mystery of mysteries, the door to all wonders ⬅️ you can access this through your subconscious
The Body-Mind Connection and Subconscious Habits
Have you ever felt so stressed that even your best ideas seemed out of reach? Or so overwhelmed by fear that every decision felt impossible? Every time you think a thought, feel an emotion, or act a certain way, your body responds. The tension you feel when stressed, the calm that floods over you after a deep breath—these aren’t random reactions. They’re programmed responses that reinforce each other over time, creating deeply ingrained subconscious habits.
Your body holds memories of emotions and behaviors, particularly those tied to fear, stress, or joy. This is because emotions are encoded not only in your mind but also in your nervous system. Your brain and body communicate constantly, building associations that determine how you respond to different situations. So, if your goal is to change a subconscious pattern—whether it’s moving past fear, adopting new beliefs, or achieving a state of abundance—it’s essential to work with both your mind and body.
Why the heck am I giving this to you? Many people assume that the subconscious is like a kraken monster that rises up from the deep to eat you alive — an abyss of horrors, past traumas, unprocessed emotions, deep-seated fears, and nightmares. After I had a diffuse axonal traumatic brain injury (whiplash), of which 30% of all cases end up in unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (UWS) or post-coma unawareness (PC-U), I spent about 18 hours a day in bed. At first, it was indeed like a forced Vipasana meditation retreat from hell, but leveraging this to explore deeper consciousness gave me a vital clue — that the under-currents of consciousness are where we can reclaim and own our power. It’s worth it.

Alpha and Theta Brainwaves: The Gateway to Transformation
Thankfully, there’s a gentler meandering path through these very human ups and downs of tension and release—a pathway that’s been used by mystics for centuries and validated by neuroscience today. Let’s explore how you can tap into this transformative state of being. One of the most powerful ways to access the subconscious is through alpha and theta brainwave states. When you’re in an alpha state (relaxed but alert, like in meditation) or theta state (a deep meditative or drowsy state), your brain becomes more suggestible — hence, all the wacky cartoons (see Spongebob below), shows, and movies that depict hypnosis with the words, “You are getting veeerryy sleepy.” This is where transformation can happen and this has been recorded in the brains of monks and meditation practitioners.
In these states, you’re tapping into the quantum field of all potential, a space beyond your usual limitations and thought patterns. It’s the same space that Rumi describes in his poem “The Great Wagon”:
“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”
As Rumi invites us into the ‘field beyond ideas,’ neuroscience and other areas of research now reveal this field as not just a metaphor, but a field of energy throughout this universe, a void that can be experienced consciously during deep stillness, as demonstrated by measurable states of brainwave, heart, and bioenergetic coherence. Dr. Richard Hawkins also has observed this through logarithmic muscle testing. In this field, you’re connected to a vast potential, free from the filters of fear, judgment, and stress that can block your ability to manifest. Buddhist and Taoist nuns and monks, shamans, sufis, and other mystics have demonstrated how to overcome this for thousands of years. Science, which relies on observable, measurable, and quantitative data to get people convinced enough to accept something as real, is only now catching up to what we have had access to since time immemorial.
Once you find yourself in the field—the space of infinite possibility and interconnectedness—the key is relaxed focus. This is not a place for striving or overthinking but for allowing. Let your thoughts gently subside, like leaves floating down a stream. Breathe deeply into your heart, feeling each inhale expand your chest with warmth and openness. As you settle into this state, imagine the energy of your desires dissolving into the field, carried by an organizing consciousness far greater than yourself. Trust that this intelligence knows exactly where to direct your intentions—straight to the heart of the universe. This is the art of co-creation: releasing your grip, allowing the universe to take over, and staying open to receiving the harmonized reflections of your desires in their most aligned and abundant form.

How Fear and Stress Jam the Signal
When you’re stressed, your brain operates in beta brainwave mode, where critical thinking and survival instincts dominate, making it difficult to access alpha and theta states—the brainwave frequencies associated with creativity, problem-solving, and connection to the field of all possibilities. The more stress you experience, the more often your body goes into this reactive state, creating a cycle that strengthens fear-based habits and limits your ability to align with what you truly want. Simply put, when human beings close up their hearts, they are closed to connection. When they open up their hearts, they are open to connection. When human beings feel afraid and fragmented, they tend to close up their hearts. When human beings feel safe and whole, they tend to open up their hearts. Your ability to open up your heart, cultivate compassionate awareness, be present, and maintain equanimity will unlock your magnetism by giving you greatest access to your personal power, the energy of your life and your soul. This repeating feedback loop of stress samsara — where we remain trapped in patterns of suffering and craving — triggers the release of cortisol, catecholamines, and other stress-related chemicals in the body, which can become addictive over time. This cycle contributes to the distraction and stress epidemic faced by so many today. Incorporating meditation as a regular practice offers a powerful antidote, helping to break this cycle and restore balance.
During meditation and other states of flow focus and deep relaxation, your brain transitions from high-frequency beta waves (associated with stress and overthinking) to slower alpha and theta waves, states linked to relaxation, creativity, and heightened receptivity. In these states, your brain releases a symphony of beneficial neurochemicals, including serotonin (which enhances mood), dopamine (which motivates and rewards), and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which calms the nervous system and helps break bad habits. Meditation also triggers a reduction in cortisol, the stress hormone, lowering the physiological effects of stress such as inflammation, disrupted sleep, and heightened anxiety.

Over time, meditation promotes the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein that supports neuroplasticity—your brain’s ability to rewire itself. This process strengthens neural pathways that align with calm, focused, and intentional behaviors while weakening those tied to stress and fear. Meditation also boosts activity in the prefrontal cortex, the brain region associated with executive functions, while calming the amygdala, the center of the fight-or-flight response. The result? A brain and body that are better equipped to respond to challenges with equanimity and clarity, creating fertile ground for lasting transformation.

Moving Beyond Fear with A Course in Miracles
A Course in Miracles offers a profound approach to transcending fear, seeing it as an illusion that blocks our connection to love and higher consciousness. According to the Course, moving beyond fear isn’t about ignoring it or suppressing it; it’s about becoming aware that it is a level of thinking focused on separation instead of wholeness. Through forgiveness, self-compassion, and a shift in perception from fear to the infinite love and compassion of this Universe that we always have access to and is in our very nature, we open ourselves to a more expansive state where we’re aligned with our true purpose and potential.
This shift allows you to access the alpha and theta states more freely, helping you feel centered and at peace even in challenging situations. As you let go of fear, you naturally shift into a higher vibrational state, one that’s open to the possibilities in that limitless field Rumi spoke of.
Practical Tips for Aligning Body and Mind with Desired Outcomes
Create Daily Relaxation Practices: Incorporate meditation, deep breathing, or gentle stretching into your routine to help your nervous system release tension. These practices can help you slip into an alpha or theta brainwave state, making it easier to work with your subconscious.
Visualize in a Relaxed State: When you visualize a goal or desired outcome, do so after a relaxation exercise, when you’re in a receptive state. Imagine the outcome as if it’s already happened, feeling the emotions in your body. This practice helps create new neural associations, allowing the subconscious to align with your goals.
Acknowledge Fear, Then Shift: When fear arises, acknowledge it without judgment. Ask yourself, “Is this a signal or simply a conditioned response?” Often, it’s the latter. Shift your attention to the present moment through grounding exercises, like focusing on your breath or feeling your feet on the floor.
Think, Feel, Relax, Rehearse: If there is something in particular that stresses you out to think about (and you have sufficient regulation skills and support to feel safe to do so), bring it up to practice deliberately relaxing the tension in your body. This is a technique from my teacher, shamanic practitioner and lomi lomi bodywork healer Graeme Kapono Urlich.
Affirmations in Alpha and Theta States: Right before bed or upon waking, when you’re naturally more likely to be in alpha and theta states as you move towards delta (sleep). This is a fantastic time to meditate, journal intentions, do breathwork, practice affirmations, and other spiritually integrative practices. These moments are ideal for “installing” new beliefs into the subconscious, as your mind is more open and suggestible.
Practice Self-Compassion: As A Course in Miracles emphasizes, realizing that perfect love casts out all fear and that YOUR VERY NATURE IS PERFECT LOVE can help dissolve fear and resistance. When you remind yourself of your divine heritage, you’re telling your subconscious that you are safe in this Universe and entitled to miracles, reinforcing a state of openness rather than defense, which the Course teaches is the illusion of fear convincing you to attack yourself.
A lot of people get stuck on manifesting and co-creating the outcome, but you can actually manifest and co-create the means, the way, and how your success happens. You can ask the universe to make complete success happen for you in a way that is just perfect for you—in an easy and relaxed manner, in a healthy and positive way.
