Your mind is a powerful system that determines how you experience and interact with the world. While much of your decision-making feels conscious, it's actually compelled by a deeper force: your subconscious mind. This hidden part of you is constantly influencing your perception, assumptions, preferences, choices, and therefore your reality, often without your awareness. Your body and subconscious mind are constantly communicating with each other. That’s why subconscious patterns often manifest physically, such as in seemingly repeating experiences of relationships, career, finances, life events, and chronic tension or fatigue. The subconscious patterns can even lead to autoimmune and other inflammation related chronic health conditions. High levels of stress that persist for long periods of time can also turn dormant genes for diseases and cancers on and off. Within the medical science of epidemiology, trauma is officially classified as a disease. To change such patterns, you’ll need to work with both your mind and your body. And when you change your body, you change the signals of your neural circuitry as well as the genetic expression of adaptation and evolution being recorded in your DNA.

Why the heck am I giving this to you? Many people assume that the subconscious is like a kraken monster that rises up from the deep to eat you alive — an abyss of horrors, past traumas, unprocessed emotions, deep-seated fears, and nightmares. After I had a diffuse axonal traumatic brain injury (whiplash), of which 30% of all cases end up in unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (UWS) or post-coma unawareness (PC-U), I spent about 18 hours a day in bed. At first, it was indeed like a forced Vipasana meditation retreat from hell, but leveraging this to explore deeper consciousness gave me a vital clue — that the under-currents of consciousness are where we can reclaim and own our power. It’s worth it.
Neural Pathways: The Wiring of Your Subconscious
At the core of your subconscious mind are neural pathways—networks of neurons that fire together in response to stimuli. Every thought, emotion, or behavior you engage in strengthens the corresponding neural pathway. Over time, these pathways become automatic, meaning you don’t need to consciously think about them for them to affect you.
These pathways exist not only in your brain but also in your body. Your nervous system is wired to respond automatically based on past experiences. If you’ve developed a pattern of reacting to stress by tensing your muscles, that’s a subconscious bodily response. The more often you repeat this response, the more ingrained it becomes. Thanks to neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to adapt and rewire, you can create new pathways and change these subconscious patterns—even the ones you’ve carried and reinforced for years.
How to Rewire Your Mind and Body for Better Outcomes
By understanding the connection between your subconscious, your neural pathways, and your body, you can actively reshape your life. Here’s how you can start:
Become Aware of Your Patterns
To change a subconscious pattern, you first need to recognize it (metacognition). Start by paying attention to your thoughts, emotions, and how your body reacts in certain situations. Does a specific event trigger tightness in your chest, tension in your neck, or a sinking feeling in your stomach? These physical sensations can be clues to subconscious patterns that influence your behavior. Journaling can help you track both your mental and physical reactions over time.Challenge Your Old Beliefs and Physical Reactions
Once you’ve identified the subconscious belief or response driving your actions, question it. Ask yourself: Is this belief still serving me? Where did it come from? Can I find evidence that contradicts it? At the same time, take note of how your body responds. If you feel tightness or tension, consciously relax those areas through breathing exercises or gentle movement, signaling to your brain that the old response is no longer needed.Create New Neural Pathways and Body Responses
With neuroplasticity, you have the ability to create new neural connections by choosing new thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. For example, if you’re working on building self-confidence, you might start by affirming your strengths and engaging in behaviors that reinforce this belief. At the same time, work with your body by practicing huna (Hawaiian shamanic techniques), somatic exercises or yoga to release any physical tension tied to old patterns, aligning your body with the new mindset that supports your new way of being and living.Repeat to Strengthen New Patterns
Rewiring your mind and body doesn’t happen overnight. You’ll need to consistently repeat new thoughts, behaviors, and physical responses to strengthen these new neural pathways. Over time, your brain and body will start to adopt these new patterns automatically, replacing the old ones.Incorporate Visualization, Meditation, and Body-Based Practices
Visualization and meditation are powerful tools for creating new neural pathways. When you visualize a desired outcome with strong emotional and physical engagement, your brain responds as if it's real, reinforcing the new pattern. At the same time, incorporating mind-body integrated practices like huna, breathwork, tai chi, or progressive muscle relaxation helps to reprogram your nervous system, allowing your body to align with the changes you’re creating.
Shaping Your New Reality
By understanding how your subconscious mind and body shape your reality, and by using neuroplasticity to rewire old patterns, you can create lasting change. What once seemed like ingrained habits or beliefs can be transformed with conscious effort. Your brain and body are flexible, and with self-compassionate patience and dedicated practice, you can reshape them to support the life you desire.
Your reality isn’t set in stone. It’s shaped by the patterns in your subconscious and body—patterns that you have the power to change. With the right support, tools, and gentle persistence, you can break free from limiting beliefs and behaviors, creating space for new possibilities and outcomes.
A lot of people get stuck on manifesting and co-creating the outcome, but you can actually manifest and co-create the means, the way, and how your success happens. You can ask the universe to make complete success happen for you in a way that is just perfect for you—in an easy and relaxed manner, in a healthy and positive way.
