Hello Visionary,
Envisioning is the powerful practice of seeing, in your mind’s eye, the core of your consciousness, whatever it is that you choose to focus on — symbols, light, energy, power. This can heal, empower, and manifest by way of co-creation in partnership with the Universe. And, if you can use this ability to connect directly to the quantum web of interconnectedness. We’ll take a look at this from a scientific perspective, which is very lengthy, detailed, and long-drawn-out, a shamanic perspective with is exquisitely succinct, and the science fiction perspective which is fact hidden in fiction. These three perspectives are ways of code switching to gain a more holistic, comprehensive understanding.
Envisioning, directing focused attention), with a specific intention to harmonize, engages the ventral vagal system (the part of the autonomic nervous system associated with safety, connection, and social engagement) and helps regulate the nervous system, promoting a more balanced and harmonious state of being. Attention and imagery have a measurable impact on neurophysiology—the brain and nervous system respond to imagined sensations similarly to real ones, which can shift our autonomic state and produce physiological changes.
“While we may think our brains are in charge, the heart of our daily experience and the way we navigate the world begins in our bodies with the autonomic nervous system.”
— Deb Dana, Anchored: How to Befriend Your Nervous System Using Polyvagal Theory
When people focus on another person in energy healing, neural entrainment and co-regulation happen—their brainwaves and nervous systems sync up. Entrainment happens when two biological systems (like brain waves, heart rates, or energy fields) sync up due to proximity or interaction. A person’s ventral vagal regulated state and heart coherence (heart rhythms can affect those nearby, especially when there is intention and emotional coherence) + bioenergetic field (the heart and brain generate measurable electromagnetic fields that extend beyond the body) can entrain the another person's nervous system to shift toward a more harmonious state. People’s heart rates sync when sitting together and their brain waves synchronize during deep conversations. The ventral vagal system is wired for co-regulation, meaning we naturally adjust to the nervous states of those around us.
The scientific perspective: the brain and nervous system respond to imagined sensations similarly to real ones, which can shift our autonomic state and produce physiological changes.
The shamanic perspective: the knower and the known become one; this takes place when all sense of separation between the knower and the known dissolve. This is how reality can be changed.
In the science fiction work, where fact is hidden in fiction, Stranger in a Strange Land, Robert Heinlen calls this grokking.
“Grok’ means to understand so thoroughly that the observer becomes a part of the observed-to merge, blend, intermarry, lose identity in group experience. It means almost everything that we mean by religion, philosophy, and science—and it means as little to us as a color means to a blind man.”
― Robert A. Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land
“Healing is the return of the memory of wholeness. Healing, health, whole and holy all mean inclusiveness. Body, mind, spirit, environment, relationships, social interactions are all one wholeness, and you’re a part of that one wholeness.”
— Deepak Chopra
