The Nocebo Effect: Defying the Disbelievers & Haters With Panache
The Nocebo Effect obstructs your ability to unleash your genius, shine without fear, and show up in the world with your head up high

Hello Visionary,
There are moments in life when someone’s words take root in your mind and a strangle hold on your life. A doctor telling you there’s no hope, you’ve reached the end of the road. A partner cutting you down with the sharp edge of their bitter judgments. A publishing agent saying you have no business writing.
And for a while, you might believe it all as proof positive of utter failure and having reached the point of no return, no future. I did. I thought I was FUBAR’ed.
A friend in Denmark calls this the Nocebo Effect, the opposite of the placebo effect, the belief that it won’t get better.

After a diffuse axonal brain injury, a doctor handed me a prescription for pain medications and told me this was the end of the road. After about a decade of dragging, another doctor— the one I see now — looked me in the eye on our first visit and said, Oh yeah, you’re going to get better. And I have.
My ex told me I don’t belong with a family because I was an orphan and I don’t know how to. But then I met someone who made me realize: I do belong. I do want love, marriage, a home, a family — and I can have it. He was the first person who made me feel truly like I was ready to go all the way. And no, it hasn’t concluded with a happy ending. Yet.
When I first started writing with the hopes of gaining financial independence, I faced rejection after rejection. An agent flat-out told me I had no business writing because because I’m a nobody in this world, no one knows my name. Countless rejection letters filled up my inbox day after day. A consultant said my books have to be proof of concept to convince the publishing companies out there that my work matters and it’s sellable. Lord knows I’ve tried.
Thankfully, the local downtown association published an article on me. Someone in my neighborhood told me she reads all my emails. People on my email list, in my social media messages, and around town were telling me that my words made a difference in their lives. My mentor and friends told me my stuff is rather good. And I’ve valiantly, heroically been through a whole trek to Mordor to be able to write as I do. Now, my tune has changed to: “F**** you, I’m a damn good writer, and I write.”
The Nocebo Effect is hella messed up—it obstructs your ability to really unleash your genius, shine without fear of offending anyone’s eyeballs, show up in the world with your head up high and eyes forward with confidence (internet trolls be damned), and contribute from the depths of your brilliance. It’s not about faking it until you make it or acting cocky in a mistaken attempt at confidence. There’s a switch in your mind that has to flip. The moment you decide, No, I’m not accepting that BS, the moment it becomes totally unacceptable and you stop waiting for permission, everything shifts. Who do you choose to believe — them or you?

“Bennett is a sensitive, thoughtful, and confident writer, with a clear desire to help others change their lives, or at least their mindset. Unpacking the apparent conflict between 'sacred' and 'logical,' and combining spiritual ideas with science and reason. Bennett’s powerful lived experience and her stunning story of personal growth provide her with authenticity and authority as an expert in overcoming hardship. Manifestation, astrology, re-architecting your reality, and changing your energetic course in life are just a few of the complex subjects Emma Bennett explores, and by and large she does a good job of weaving seemingly disparate ideas together into a cohesive whole.”

A Note from Emma
Mahalo nui loa, thank you for being a part of this global community of compassionate, brilliant, heart-centered human beings. You are a gift of Source, and the light you ripple from just being who you are into this world matters deeply.
People often ask how I can still be joyful, peaceful, and positive after everything I’ve experienced — an ACE (Adverse Childhood Experience) score of 8/10, a coma, trauma, neurological complications, life experiences that stretched a dark night of the soul into multiple decades. Shamanic traditions of the Americas consider the lower world to be the place you can dive into the depths of to recover your power. I made the choice to do so and you can too.
My work as a soul alchemist and transformation catalyst helps visionary humans like you transform struggle into power, doubt into genius, and blocks into breakthroughs.
I work across four levels of reality — objective, subjective, symbolic, and holistic — to create transformation that lasts. This isn’t surface-level mindset woowoo new age dryer lint fluff. This is real, deep rewiring of your energy, intention, identity, and capacity to hold life, love, wealth, power and purpose. And to live and manifest from wholeness.

About Emma
Just as she graduated from university, Emma Bennett slipped on a spill in the stairwell and her life was forever altered in unimaginable ways. Since then, Emma has leveraged conscious adaptation to heal and create change through neuroplasticity, which changed her mind about what it means to live creatively. Now, Emma writes, speaks, and teaches on how to leverage the hidden powers of their remarkable brains, nervous systems, bodies, and spirits.
Emma brings together the realms of tarot, astrology, positive neuroplasticity, and transpersonal (beyond self, higher consciousness) development. Her approach is psychobiologically-informed, offering a holistic perspective on personal development that goes beyond traditional measures.
With her experience working with multinational NGOs, nonprofits, and Fortune 500 companies, including the UNDP, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Hulu, NBCUniversal, and Disney, Emma possesses a wealth of knowledge that she integrates into her coaching services. “Emma’s sparkling prose achieves a degree of communication with the reader in a manner few other writers of this genre can claim. Her spirit soars like the ideas she purports. Learning of her own journey to enlightenment adds to the credibility of her recommendations for truly seeking awareness. As she shares, ‘The energy I put into this book will pass on to you and the message I have to offer will sink into your subconscious, which will awaken a new perspective and awareness throughout your life. Trust your soul to sort it all out and go through life heartfirst instead of headfirst. This will provide you with the most amazing experiences of a lifetime. Your heart knows the way. Your head doesn’t have a clue.’” — Grady, reivewer of Written Into Reality: The Art of Co-Creating Your Dreams to Life
