Emalani is an online publication by Emma Bennett intended to guide maverick entrepreneurs, creators, healers, and innovators like you towards a state of holistic prosperity, emphasizing the importance of self-love + leadership, success, and wealth defined on your terms.

Hello Darlings,

Giving away so much value that they throw money at you is not good business advice. Once you take your focus and energy off of what you do best that you can do better than anyone else and is your calling, you spend it on what everyone else seems to be doing. You lose yourself to the expectations of the world.

We’ve all heard the buzz about giving value to get value in the business world. It’s like the golden rule of marketing and sales, right? But what if I told you there’s a sweet spot between being generous and ensuring you’re not giving away more than your energy can sustainably generate?

The Downside of Over-giving:

  1. Diminished Perceived Value: Ever notice how when something’s free all the time, it can start feeling a bit... meh? Yeah, that’s the risk. Handing out goodies left and right might make customers expect freebies, and suddenly, the value of what you’re offering takes a hit and you are burning out. You can start feeling pretty bitter about it.

  2. Loss of Profitability: We all love making others happy, but there’s a fine line that can impact your ability to sustain the energy to create and keep going with your business. Finding that sweet spot between delighting people and keeping the cash flow healthy is the key to long-term success.

  3. Dilution of Expertise: Have you ever caught yourself looking too much at what others are doing and thinking, “Maybe I should do that too”? It happens to the best of us. But losing sight of what makes your business unique can dilute your expertise and set you on a path to blending in with the crowd when really, you were made to stand out.
