Hello Visionary, yes that’s you,
The word “performance” comes from the Old French “parfornir,” which means to do, carry out, finish, accomplish. High performance does not necessarily mean swallowing down raw eggs and training like Rocky Balboa getting ready to square off with Adonis. It means that you are able to do what you intend to do with the highest level of integrity possible—meaning, you are coming from a place of wholeness, being true to yourself and your values, you honor your wellbeing in the process, and you do not treat yourself as though you are a mere means to an end. This is what we inadvertently do when we get so fixated on the result we want and try to read all the self-help articles, figure out what others are doing to succeed, and whip ourselves to stake a flag on the mountain that everybody else seems to be getting to.
A large part of this is learning how to work with your brain & nervous system, not against. With all the rules, the dos and don’ts of productivity and success, it’s up to you to figure out what works for you and what does not work for you. Pushing your brain and nervous system to operate in a way it was never designed to will cost you time, energy, and take away from other experiences that will enhance the quality of your life. It’s simply ineffective. Not optimal.
Tip: every now and then, do an audit on what’s working for you, what’s not, and why

After a brain injury, I learned to leverage undergrad studies in psychology, psychobiology, and neuroscience to figure out how to live with graceful degradation, how a system functions with reduced capacity after being impacted. This led me to figuring out how to do anything and everything in the easiest, and most effective way possible fast and hard. My recovery became my test kitchen. This is how neurohacking came about. A hack is a shortcut. It’s a way of doing something that makes doing what you want to do easier and gets you the result that you want. It’s a means of optimization. So, we’re talking neurological optimization here.
“Brain injury survivors may require more time to think or speak, and it does not mean we have lost our intelligence. It means our brains are recovering, please respect us.”
The quote above is grabbed from a neurological rehabilitation center, instructing us TBI recoverers on how to speak up for ourselves. It also made me realize that, for me, neurological optimization means my capabilities are now different and I need to respect that and adjust expectations of myself accordingly. What about you? What expectations of yourself do you need to adjust to accommodate how you are feeling, what your best may be, what your current capabilities are, and your mental, physical, emotional, spiritual state right now? Learning to adjust your expectations on the fly is a critical part of neurohacking. When your own expectations are not fair to you, they become self-defeating instead of helping you succeed and thrive.
Tip: be nimble with expectation adjustments
