Introduction

[This book] is an open open invitation to change your mind about what money means to you and how you use it — this involves neuroplasticity, your brain and nervous system’s ability to heal and work in ways that support your thriving. Additionally, I offer guidance to empower you in redefining what wealth and power truly mean for you, encouraging a departure from blindly accepting societal or external influences.

A barrier to your highest levels of success and thriving that can be overcome with the right tools and support is the Einstellung effect, the human tendency to base your outlook on what is possible based on what has happened in the past. This makes sense when you look at this from the psychobiology angle — wandering out into unknown territory could be a threat to survival. Trying new foods could mean toxicity and death. Trying a new way to do things could fail and lead you to certain demise. Repeating what has worked, what you know, and what you think keeps you safe, can lock your odds of survival down, or so your brain and nervous system thinks. Cognitive biases are primarily based on survival. We are hardwired by evolutionary psychobiology to hold ourselves back from wandering into treacherous territory and poisonous foods, which translates to fears of the unknown, risk, loss, rejection, abandonment, and so on.

It totally makes sense to look at anxiety and hating to be alone from a psychobiological perspective — being alone in the wild could mean certain death, so it makes perfect sense that your brain and nervous system would be aversive to the experience of aloneness unless you have another way of feeling safe, secure, and certain that you will not only survive, but thrive. Thus, we may have the proclivity to cling onto whatever gives us some semblance of safety and belonging, regardless of whether or not this may be truly supportive of our thriving. It will naturally be hard for your brain to learn how to break down the fence and run free when it has been primed and programmed by the forces of nature to have limitations and self-sabotaging behaviors as in-built survival mechanisms. The problem is complex and the solution is thankfully simple.
